You have created a great product, service or content that deserves attention. What is next? Bring your audience closer to a desired action, whether it’s a purchase, subscription, download or interaction. And that’s where Calls to Action (CTAs) will help you increase conversions.
Let’s take a look at what they are and how to create effective CTAs that no one passes up!
What are Calls to Action (CTAs) and why do they matter?
Call to Actions are short, engaging prompts that drive your customers to take a specific action. Typically, they are phrases such as: “Buy now”, “Download the guide”, “Join our community”.
A well-written CTA:
- Focuses on the goal. Do you want them to check in, follow you on social media, or buy?
- Motivates your audience. They use persuasive language that makes action necessary.
- Increases conversions. Without a strong CTA, audiences may “lose track” and not take the desired step.
The 3 key elements of any successful Call to Action
To build CTAs that really “work”, you need to combine the following:
1. Clarity
Your CTA needs to be clear from the first glance. Avoid unnecessary words or complicated language. People need to easily understand the action you are asking for.
2. Urgent language
Use words that create a sense of “now”. A sense of urgency helps to mobilize users more quickly.
Examples:
- “Catch the offer”
- “Register now”
3. Visibility and proper positioning
Your CTA needs to stand out. Place it prominently on your page (e.g. in the middle or at the end of the content) and use a bold design, distinctive shape or color to grab attention and emphasize the message.
How to write your own CTA in 6 steps
Step 1. Define your goal
First, think about exactly what you want your customers to do. Your goals might be to click on a link, to buy a product, or to download a guide.
The more specific your goal, the more targeted your CTA will be.
Step 2. Use active language
Prefer short phrases that encourage action. Phrases with verbs like “Download”, “Start”, “Discover” are more effective than passive phrases.
Step 3. Create a sense of value
Why would a user click? Create value or emphasize the benefit to be gained.
Examples:
- “Get 20% off on your next purchase”
- “Learn how to save time with our guide”
Step 4. Add urgency
Use words like: “Now”, “Immediately”, “Today”.
Examples:
- “Join us today”
- “Buy before the offer expires”
Step 5. Do testing in different versions
No CTA is perfect on the first try. Do A/B testing on different phrases, colors and positions.
Examples of testing:
- “Sign up for free” or “Try it for free for 7 days”
- Button in white or bright blue, in the center or at the bottom of the page
Step 6. Use social proof
The decision becomes easier for the audience when you highlight that many others have taken the same action. For example, “Try the app trusted by 25,000+ users!”
Create your CTAs
The right call to action is essentially a “bridge” that connects your content to your goals, whether that’s more sales, registrations or interactions. Whatever your goal is, all you need to do is try creating CTAs by following the tips above and see what works best for you. Good luck!
