Important change to Gmail: What it means for connected email accounts

If you use Gmail to collect and manage emails from different providers, an important change from Google requires your attention. As of January 2026, Gmail will no longer support the management of external email accounts directly within its platform. 

Google is changing how Gmail works 

Until now, you have been able to connect business or personal email accounts, such as Outlook, Yahoo, or business emails under your own domain, directly to Gmail, making it easy to manage everything in one place. This will change. 

From January 2026: 

• The Gmailify feature will be discontinued, meaning you will no longer be able to link non-Google email accounts and use Gmail’s features like spam filtering or inbox categorization. 

• Checking mail from other accounts via POP will also be discontinued, which means you won’t be able to receive messages from other mail servers within Gmail. 

Who will be affected 

This change affects anyone who uses Gmail to manage email accounts from other providers.
For example, if you have a business email under your own domain, such as [email protected], and you currently manage it through Gmail, this setup will no longer work after January 2026, and your emails will stop syncing. 

However, if you use a regular Gmail account or Google Workspace, you don’t need to take any action, as your service will continue to function normally. 

What you can do now 

To ensure uninterrupted access to your business emails, follow these steps: 

1. Choose a new email client
   You can use applications such as Outlook (Microsoft) or Thunderbird (Mozilla) to manage your emails efficiently and stay organized.
2. Set up your account via IMAP/SMTP
   Follow the instructions in our knowledge base to connect your account to your new email client. This will allow you to maintain full synchronization and access all your messages.
